3 Things You Should Know about Your iPhone Security

    • 4 min read

From Mac to iPhone, Apple prides itself on security and privacy protection. You probably think that your iPhone does not need any protection but things have changed a great deal. Your iPhone might not be as safe as you think.

Why Do You Need to Keep Your iPhone Private & Safe?

Everyone knows iPhones are probably the most difficult to hack as compared to other mobile devices. Yet, there have been a noticeable number of iCloud and data security breaches due to phishing for personal information and identity theft.

Besides software security, you also need to protect your iPhone against physical damage. iPhones are not cheap – being one of the most expensive smartphones out there, you need to look after it carefully. Moreover, you also need to protect your iPhone against artificial damage because iPhone repairing is also pretty costly.

Luckily, there are many ways to minimize your risks and protect your iPhone from damage. Here are 3 things you need to know for your iPhone security and the best ways to protect your iPhone.

    1. Protect Your iPhone from Hackers

Hackers today can spy on you through the iPhone camera by abusing iOS settings through third-party apps. Hackers have also found creative ways to breach iCloud and steal user data for identity theft, credit card information, etc. In addition to that, infected apps could also affect your iPhone with malware. A lot of iPhone users “Jailbreak” iPhone to download third-party apps that are not offered by the App Store. Jailbreaking significantly increases the risk of a hacking or malware attack.

So here are some things you should consider to maximize your iPhone security and secure your iPhone from hackers:

    I. Do not jailbreak your iPhone

    II.Enable two-factor authentication

No matter how strong your password is, there is still a possibility of a skilled hacker cracking it. Two-factor authentication acts as an added layer of protection. To enable this feature, follow these steps:

    1. Go to Settings > Your Apple ID > Password & Security
    2. Enter your Apple ID and password
    3. Now select Turn Two-Factor Authentication On

III. Enable two-step verification for iCloud and Apple ID

Use two-step verification for Apple ID and iCloud to add more security to your data. Basically, you will set up trusted devices (devices you control) that can receive a 4-digit verification code via email, SMS or Find My iPhone service.

So, anytime you want to sign in on your Apple ID for iCloud or iTunes and App Store or iBook purchases, you will have to verify your identity by entering the 4-digit verification code sent to you.

To set this feature follow these steps:

    1. Go to https://appleid.apple.com
    2. Now go to Manage your Apple ID > Password and Security > Two-Step Verification
    3. Enable two-step verification.

    IV. Get used to VPN

Virtual Private Network or VPN is a very useful tool to add extra security to the iPhone while using different wireless networks – especially unknown ones. A VPN encrypts all incoming and outgoing network traffic making it useless to analyze and intercept. Thus, anyone trying to breach your device through the internet will not succeed in his efforts. To enable VPN, go to Settings > General > VPN > Add VPN Configuration.
